Nadia took me to see those today. They are NOT a festival favourite! By contrast, she took me to see this 'Pink Perfection' at 25 Avenue and 142 Street, which has already been posted here. It has been pruned, but still is considerably larger than most, and has a somewhat unusual upright shape. The flowers are beautiful.


Nadia already posted this street of 'Kanzan' on 17 Avenue at 127A Street, but she said she didn't include the ocean view. There is hardly a street in this area that doesn't have an half and half avium/'Kanzan', or else avium trees that obviously used to be 'Kanzan'.

 

ALDERWOOD Park and area around are full of Kanzan cherries. One of my favourites of Kanzan

And every year I look at this tree and I never posted it. I think because it is very old it cannot be Akebono?I always look at it from distance and never in time to look close at flowers

3521, 156A Street, this is for sure Shirofugen cherry

 

I give up. I can't do Ichiyo/Shogetsu, and sometimes Shiro-fugen. The "2 old cherries at 28ave near 152 S" I thought looked like 'Shogetsu'. If 'Ichiyo', sepals should be not serrated. If 'Shogetsu', sepals should be serrated. If 'Shirofugen', sepals should be serrated just in the middle but not at the ends. You can put them on a list for next year to see if they're pink when they open ('Ichiyo'). 'Ichiyo' in the West End are very finished, no complete good-looking flowers, all pink in the centres.

The "very old it cannot be Akebono?" could be 'Akebono', which dates to 1920. Even if it took ten years for those to arrive here (it probably says somewhere on these forums), that could be 84 years ago. You can put it on the map as "needs to be confirmed".

The "strange looking tree" on Rosemary Heights, does it have too many whole flowers now for 'Ichiyo'? The petal edges looks like 'Shogetsu' too.

None of the ones I think look like 'Shogetsu' have the long peduncles I would expect. But that's the case in the West End this year too.

I agree with your 'Shiro-fugen'. At least that's clear.

I usually see Shirofugen and Shogetsu right away. These all trees in the same area.Did we have any new cultivars for sale? Something bothers me with these trees.

 

This is a controversial area, partly Surrey, partly South Surrey

lots of flowers have 6-7 sepals
not so delicate structure
branches are thicker, going up and after that weeping
flowers are in big bunches and at the end of the branches(I look out of the window at our Shogetsu, it looks more delicate and flowers are more evenly along the branches,sepals are serrated)
