I find this tree to have one of the cooliest fall colors. It had very vivid green and purple leaves last fall. I first thought it was a fast grower but this last year it has not shown the same growth rate.

This is still one of the most spectacular fall colored trees. Oregon Fern is similar.

AmazingMaples - Charlie got my first Abby's Weeping from Talon this year. I usually don't stock the japonicum maples because the branching gets real rigid - in only a year or two. I guess after seeing your amazing photos I will keep one for myself.

    Sam

Abby's Weeping is one of my favorite of all trees for its purple and green fall color. The first year i bought one it was a bit hard to find a buyer but now I do sell a few each year to the people who have been through my garden in fall. i find the tree to be on the smaller side but not as small as Kawaii.
Abby's weeping is a great tree next to a stream or water fall.

Maplesandpaws Nice looking 1 gallon. Just picked up 3 new Acer japonicum maples at Talon's on Wednesday. I will take pics when leaves are fully formed.

I don't know if people are still looking at this thread but I have to post this picture. I bought this tree from Charlie almost 10 years ago. It is planted on a steep slope next to a waterfall. It is surrounded by heavy vegetation of Mahonia and Salal. I pruned some away last summer and used tape to tie some lower branches to uppers and got it more light than it had had in years. The result was this spectacular fall show.

Hi Bill, yes I still follow UBC forums. I had forgotten how beautiful the fall color was on this japonicum cultivar. Maybe I can find another and keep it for myself. Thanks for sharing. Sam

That is incredible. Thanks for sharing. How does it compare with Fairy Lights?

This picture was taken after the peak. You can see the leaves starting to turn. The yellows were brighter and had more orange.

@Bill hibler, I have to agree Bill, Fairy lights is a wonderful cultivar and IMO gives a better Autumn colour.

Anyone else done a comparison between Abby's Weeping vs Fairy Light?

I have a Fairy Lights... but now I'm convinced I need Abby's Weeping.

That Japonicum purple fall color looks incredible on Abby's Weeping

Hi Connor, IMO Abbey's weeping and Fairy lights are so very similar. Without a tag/ label I don't think many people would be able to ID which is which. There are some dubious photos online of Abbey's weeping showing purple Autumn colours.
I have looked at a friends Abbey's weeping and compared to my Fairy lights and they looked the same. ( All seasons).
So I would say be happy with your fairy lights and save your money. This time anyway lol.
