I am not surprised it blooms earlier in PNW as it probably has more degree days by July despite higher temp in summer in Boston. We are in zone 6a, Seattle is in 8a. In 2010, Tetradium bloomed July 17; that was a crazy year everything bloomed 2 weeks or more before regular schedule. But we are going toward more 'crazy' years...

I'd bet Boston has more degree days above 30° though.

Edit: yep, checked; Boston is AHS heat zone 4 (14-30 days above 30°), Vancouver is AHS heat zone 2 (1-4 days above 30°).

Maybe you can get some fruits or seeds off the ground in a local collection, try approaching the curatorial staff at one - if they have the tree. I'd also look in one of the Vancouver tree guidebooks (I know of 2 that have been published) to see if any publicly accessible plantings are mentioned.

PS there are two magnificent specimens in Tsawwassen, in the green lawn between the SDelta Rec Centre and the Baptist church! Hoping to root cuttings next summer, advice appreciated on technique.
