Hooray - Cherry Scouts Dingren and Martin have posted the first 'Autumnalis Rosea' blossoms in Richmond.

The ones in the West End have just started. Not enough colour yet to notice them unless you know where they are and go looking to see if anything's happening.

Let the season begin. Happy new year, everyone.

Only flowering now? This cultivar has been in flower for the last 2 months or so over here.

It was like that last year, or more like that, but this year, just about nothing until the past week. We had some very cold weather (for us) earlier this year than usual.

Richmond has a similar location relative to Vancouver as the Richmond near London - just south across the river. It's the hot spot around here, even ahead of the balmy West End (likely balmy only because of all the concrete). Richmond is a bit like that, but with wide streets and a lot of low-rise garden apartments with lot of at grade concrete for parking, since there's no underground parking. It's right at sea level and flat.

OK, Michael, how long have your 'Accolade' been in bloom? :)

These 'Accolade' in the West End aren't going on our festival map as being "in bloom", though they seem to have almost as many blossoms as the West End 'Autumnalis Rosea' trees.

Just to complete the picture of which cultivars around here always have some blossoms by February, here are a few 'Whitcomb' blossoms. That's all there was on this small tree in a planter. I'm not calling these "in bloom" yet either.

We did have another 'Autumnalis Rosea' posting though, and I have one to post, so the season is officially open.
