Hello, I am trying to identify a tree I found in Q.E. Park, hoping it's a local one. Thanks in advance.

Might this be a bit large for 'Gold Rush', which could be too new on the market in this region?

Looks normal green Metasequoia glyptostroboides to me, just pale because it's still spring.

Yes, a 'Gold Rush' in a parking lot planting near me is strongly yellow at this time.

Sorry Michael but I beg to differ.
We grow both the ordinary one and "Gold Rush".
"Gold Rush" just glows yellow at the moment.
This pic shows them side by side.

But also worth bearing mind, Britain has had its warmest / earliest spring on record; Vancouver (if I remember rightly) had a fairly late spring. How did yours look 3 or 4 weeks ago?

At one point Ogon was just a seedling in a row of (irradiated?) Metasequoias. This one does look a bit more yellow than my regular Dawn Redwood. My Ogon is a little darker this year. Overcast very wet spring. Looks well on its way to another three feet of growth.

Here is a pic of one I saw at Dawes last week. "National" is a cultivar there I would have just guessed as a species. I can usual spot Ogon clearly.

Any nutrient deficiencies in Metasequoia cause this? Plenty of yellow Pin Oaks around here.
