Any idea what this is curly thing is? It was brought in from a nearby bog. Grows quickly. Thank you:)
Hi Lettuce. Reminds me of Sphaghnum moss. However, no idea which species. http://creationwiki.org/Sphagnidae
not Sphagnum... mine is aquatic.. however, I dont recall whether it was floating or submerged. Hm, I wouldn't bet on Elodea. The plant on my pics has distinctly alternate leaves. Its a standard test tube, Id say 12mm diameter...
Lettuce this may be of interest to you. Sphagnum moss is the main plant found in bogs, (which are always very acid.) It actually grows in water. http://www.ipcc.ie/bogsform.html
A common water, or submerged, moss named willow moss (Fontinalis antipyretica). Cheers, Harri Harmaja http://www.fmnh.helsinki.fi/users/harmaja/index.htm
That thought has occured to me, yes. But looking online at the willow moss photos in comparison, seemed like my plant has its leaves more distantly spread apart. Even so, I think its the best shot so far. Thx
