    I sensed italics around the "tree" part of my last guess. Ordinary paeony, then, possibly with something like lutea in its name?

    Or I'm completely off, and it's something like the blossom end of a yellow tomato.

    It's the lack of scale that makes these so difficult, for me.

    See, I'd say a rose if it weren't posted as something that's far from its home.... Maybe a Malvaceae?

    Well, lots of roses come from China, which is a long way from Wales. Which is why I haven't said Hypericum, because s far as I know, some are native to the British Isles.

    I really have no other ideas. I was so sure about tree paeony, and so pleased with myself...

    nic, if it is any consolation it is not Hypericum either.
    Most places are a long way from Wales!!!
    Nor is it a British native.
