Hi, I live in the Creston Valley and would like to buy and grow an Almond Tree. Is there a nursery in BC, Canada that sells them? Can you buy and have them shipped to Canada from the USA? Thanks for your help, LeonaS
Hello Leona S, I found out a nursery in Ontario that sells all kind of trees. The name is Grimo Nut Nursery RR#3 Niagara on the Lake, Ontario L0S1J0 Hope this will help you. Homestaymom
Hello Leona S, I have a cousin in Victoria B C interested, Almond tree. I told her where, may be to get it, same place I told you. If, you find your almond tree, may be you can e-mail me back. Good luck, Homestaymom
Try Art Knapp (Courtenay). I bought one there about 3-4 years ago and does it ever produce beautiful spring flowers and lots of nuts! However, they are hard shell nuts and I am having difficulty cracking them. They have an excellent flavour but unfortunately I don't know the variety of the tree. It is a vigorous growing tree and at least 25' tall now. Hope this helps!
If you are still looking for an almond tree, send me an email. I recently received a list of plants from a Puerto Rican Nursery. They can send to the US with no problems (I'm not sure about Canada), and he had an Almond tree on the list. Susan
If anyone has an almond tree (with edible nuts) in Vancouver or on Vancouver Island, I would LOVE to get a twig or two to use as scionwood for grafting. I am having a heck of a time trying to find a nursery that sells almond trees in Canada. Grimo Nut nursery says almonds can't be sent to BC. I tried Art Knapp Courtenay as "Vancouver Island" suggested, but they don't have any. Help!!! Need almond twigs!!
I used to grow a cultivar called Hall's Hardy in the Okanagan Valley. You might want to try the Gellatly Nut farm in Kelowna. It's a heritage site they may be able to provide scion material. Almonds will be marginal for growing in the Creston area. Hall's Hardy is a nice tree but the nuts are quite difficult to crack. It was damaged several times at my site when the temperature hit -20c. I will post back here later or try to contact me privately. Cheers
One of the reasons for having trouble finding almonds trees is because of this. http://www.inspection.gc.ca/english/sci/surv/data/ppve.shtml. if you can find a local source it's a better idea.
We are in the Comox Valley, and have two young almond trees. Halls Hardy and Texas Mission. They are supposed to be compatible for pollination. We have had flowers on one tree, but no fruit yet. We are hoping to find Crimean Soft Shelled Almonds, but the place where I want to buy them says out of stock. If anyone has heard of a place to buy soft shelled almonds in BC, I would appreciate it if you could share. thanks
I don't know of any BC nursery, but Whiffletree Farms has Javid's Iranian for sale. I've bought from them a couple of times and was pleased with the experience. I don't know if this variety is soft-shelled, but it is described as being easy to crack open: https://www.whiffletreefarmandnursery.ca/product/almond-javids-iranian-semi-dwarf-bailey/.
Many nurseries here in the Lower Mainland sell them. The big question is, will they survive, and produce nuts? Even Bay Laurel trees. Many nurseries sell them. But the people I've talked to about them say we are just at the border of their survival zone. So, unless you can keep it in a pot and bring it to a sheltered location in the winter, you might just be wasting your money.
