The problem appears to be that the late season growth can be so vigorous that the plant will not set buds or that the growth is so tender...

Described thusly in the trade:

An upright deciduous shrub with a slow-growing, compact form and lovely small burgundy-red leaves. Fall color includes bright orange and red. Prefers sun/partial shade in well-drained soil. 5' tall x 3' wide in 10 years. Hardy to -20 degrees. USDA zone 5.

"A small tree with rust color leaves in spring turning green in summer with rust and crimson in the fall. Ocassionally will throw off cream variegation in the leaves. Slow growing. Upright, vase shape."

Have not had it long enough to tell much of anything. There is some cream variegatoin on some of the leaves, not particularly heavy, however. There is what I feel to be the older traditional form of the maple, an amoenum form, as depicted in the Esveld photos linked below, and a newer form that is represented on the Ganshukutei site. It is clear that the plants are different.

It starts out much like 'Purple Ghost', but the red color soon fades to a pink amber color which will begin to show green with golden overtones. It is one of the, if not the largest leafed Ghosts and shows more vigor than either First or Sister so far.
