I live in Nanoose Bay, Vancouver Island and we have a large fig tree (it's about 8-10 feet high and has about a five-foot spread and a circumference of about 8-10 inches). Right now it is full of fruit (all the leaves have dropped off) but with winter just around the corner I want to know if we should take all the remaining fruit off or not. (They are not ripe - still green)

Last fall ('08) we did remove all the remaining fruit but with the winter we had, we thought we might have lost the tree because growth didn't kick in until May --- since then it has flourished.

As well, should we be covering up the base of the tree or not --- we haven't in past.

    Thanks
