Identification: What are these?

    The first photo is a plant that I saw on a trail near Tofino this week. It grows large and I wonder if anyone can tell me what it is?

    The second photo is another plant I saw near Tofino. It has reddish stalks and black berries and I think may be a Saskatoon?

    Compare the first to Myrica spp. in your area, as in the left side of North America.

    Yes, the first strongly resembles Morella californica (formerly in Myrica).

    The second is evergreen huckleberry, Vaccinium ovatum.
