    Oxydendrum arboreum. Common names sourwood, sorrel tree.

    Thanks Wendy for your help in identifying that sourwood tree. Another common name for it is the Lily of the Valley tree. If you aren't already aware of it, a very good website for plant identification is: http://oregonstate.edu/dept/ldplants/
    Click on the common name list, and search for sourwood. it is interesting to note that this tree may grow to 100 ft.

    Edible leaves....sorrel like (sour), as the common name (and the 'oxy' in the latin name) suggests.
