We have a Tri-colored beech that was planted in July 09. We watered well during the summer and had a mild September. Leaves now are brown and crisp, some with holes. Is this normal for early October? Since late September, temps at night have been in the 50's and some low to mid 40's.

It's normal even for July-August! You've done well for it to stay fresh as long as it has.
