I'm trying to find out the name of one specific tree - has the same leaf pattern as a fraxinus americana, however the leaves themselves look different - longer and more tapered, almost like a willow, or bamboo leaf. I have a few pictures if that would help, however there a several along both the north and south sides of Great Nortern Way, just before main street...

The tree you are looking for might be Faxinus oxycarpa 'Raywood', which is also found in Victoria. A source for this tree might be River Meadow Nursery in Courtenay - they grow a lot of trees on the Island - tel. 250-338-4111. I just ran across this tree myself recently and it is certainly very nice and a bit tropical looking.

That's what it looks like - that Fraxinus

And they turn burgundy in autumn.

In Portland, Oregon area, those are notorious for limbs bending out of place, poor rooting (leaning) and weak branch and trunk structure.

But they are pretty in the fall.
