I've tried to find out at the local garden centers - and no one really gives me a straight answer - do we need to put down fabric before putting the stone and plants in the xeriscape yard? My first thought is yes.

Please tell me what your experience has been. And what types of fabric you used.

    Thanks!

Avoid fabric! Clear the ground of weeds and then mulch with cobbles or other rocks around plants and boulders. Use flat rocks to provide perches for access.

Thanks Ron - that's exactly what I needed to know - now I can can move forward. I like the idea of some flat rock - I hadn't thought of that.
