I liked this tree enough to start a whole thread for it. Maybe we'll get other reports from this area. This is in North Delta, on the south end of Fairlight Crescent. It's not very weeping, but it still looks like a 'Kiku-shidare-zakura' to me, the nicest one I've seen. My friend who lives across the street saw it planted, he thinks around 25 years ago.

First, thanks to Des Guo who added a nice location to the festival map: a block of 'Akebono' on 158th St at 102b Ave; he mentioned that there's a block of 'Kanzan' around the corner on 102b St, which we'll get on the map.

I went on a walk today from the Scott Road Skytrain Station to Production Way station on the Millenium Line in Burnaby. I'm posting a few photos in New West, but the young 'Kanzan' planting at the start is here in Surrey.

I've looked at this pendulous white tree on the east side of Scott Road (120th St) at Woodhurst for a year or two and finally stopped the other evening to figure out it's 'Snofozam'. Good timing - the owner came home and told me that he doesn't know what they are (there's one behind the hedge at each entrance to the road), but he's the one who planted them 20 years ago when he moved into the house.

The last photo that doesn't seem to be of anything is supposed to be showing the trunk.

Seven cherries in bloom in front of the Yale Road Centre building, 6 of them are Accolades and one in the middle is a Whitcomb cherry tree.

It is 'Accolade' according to the color and double flowers.

I honestly have not much idea about the specific tree types, I just know that it seems more Whitcomb are blooming first, especially in Vancouver. This is one really early accolade then!

Why you don't take close picture? It is a rule for posting, one with whole tree, because shape of the tree helps with identification and another one with flowers, so can be seen clearly.
    Accolade is already in bloom.

Oh, I saw it from the bus... just thought I'd mention it. So, if I find them I must absolutely take a picture?

I would get a closer shot, but was again on the bus today. Two of the trees (looks like Whitcomb) at King George Blvd & 108 Ave

Re: White Rock / South Surrey

I found this on a street in my neighbourhood I had not passed until lately. I never realized that it's so close to me and so fully bloomed! (Sorry the close-up shot wasn't as close as I thought). Looks like it is for certain an akebono cherry. The other akebono on 158 St (that are tagged on the VCBF map) will bloom very soon.

Other tree: Nearby beni-shiidare just down the street

    April 1st

Photos 1 & 2: Row of rancho on my street. I have a nice view of these, as well as of a plum tree across the street, from my house. Unfortunately, as of today the wind has blown away all of the blossoms on these rancho trees.

Photos 3 & 4: Beautiful akebono trees inside the Kingston Garden complex at 154 St near 99B and 100 Ave. Visible from the street. THese are the ones that had bloomed on Apr 1st, but there are more akebono trees visible within that specific parking lot on other corners of it.

    Last ones for today:

Photos 1 & 2 are new shots of the 158 St akebono already on the map. It was very windy lately and the blossoms were blowing around whimsically, but most are still attached as for now.

Photo 3 is of a variant I'm currently not familiar with, but I've been seeing a lot of it lately. EDIT: I think it is Shirotae.
    20130409_102BAve_Shirotae_Daryl_09-49-36rotated.jpg

Photos 4 & 5 are night shots and from earlier (March 30), akebono that sit right over the bus stop on 152nd St NS 100 Ave. Amazing if you're ever there waiting for a 320 bus, as they're right above you.

Tomorrow morning I will take some pictures of three other akebono trees on 101A Ave west of 158 St that are quite beautiful, while the blossoms are still on.

Later this month you will see several pictures of the beautiful 101 Ave, filled with kanzan on both ends for several blocks, which isn't on the map yet. They haven't bloomed but they're coming, they're getting there.

EDIT: A few of them may have not rotated, sorry

Just an update, these two akebono trees were probably the last akebono trees in Metro Vancouver that still had flowers on them. The rest in Surrey and elsewhere are all gone, replaced by the familiar green leaves. It saddens me, because I think the akebonos are some of the most beautiful. They're here in Surrey, and their blossoms had not fallen a few days ago when I took this picture (bloomed late?). By now (though I haven't checked) they are, sadly, probably gone. They're locations I already submitted.

Now, in the following posts, I'll be putting up a bunch of new pictures, especially of the kanzan. So, one moment please....

    And now, Guildford-area 'kanzan' galore.

Plus two mystery trees (last 3 pics) that I can't seem to identify but have pinkish blossoms... at this time of year, mikuruma-gaeshi?

By the way, Scott Rd Station kanzan in bloom.
