Hi we live in Whistler and are preping for 6 months of snow.
I have wrapped our Smaragd hedging 8' with hemp rope and am wondering what other winter snow prep I should be doing?
these trees went in this past spring (2004)
    i.e.
the tops will end up bending over with snow load. can I put a hood over the top such that snow slides off?
what can I use for a hood?
should these trees have additional vertical support?
should they have additional foliage protection from snowload?
I have two trees not in the ground. What should I do to protect them from winter weather till next spring when I want to plant?
    thanks for any responses.

I think its better to go hit them with a broom once a week rather than cover then with anything.

If healthy they should have rooted out well this autumn. Perhaps it's not necessary to do more now than mulch them 3"-4" deep (preferably with wood chips). Do you see other, older, unprotected arborvitaes in your vicinity?

    arborvitaes

    hi
    thanks for your note
there are many arboritaes in our area.
most get protected with snow fencing or other material.
soon as the snow gets on them without protection they get damaged quick.
One storm of wet freezing rain/snow and if not cleaned up pdq they will suffer much damage.
