Hi everyone. Well? My maples have been officially kicked out of the house this year. No more germinating for me in the fridge... :( I am seeing the samaras on the trees already and starting to get anxious. I'm planning to do a raised in ground 4'x4' seedling bed this fall. My plan is: find a semi-shady spot, raise a bed about a foot high with timber and provide adequate drainage. Then, I will fasten a wire mesh over to keep the critters out. I have also read that acers like to be planted 4" deep. To me, that just seems a bit deep and also conflicting info. I was thinking more like 2"-3" I have had great success in the fridge. With natural stratification, I have gotten so-so results. Have any of you had experience with seedling beds? Any tips that you guys and ladies can think of or have experienced would be appreciated.
