Robinia 'Purple Robe'

    I like this cultivar - Robinia 'Purple Robe'. This one in the garden was accessioned in 2011.

    I remember being excited when I first saw one growing as a street tree. I was less excited when I saw it three years later. I don't know if they're just weak trees, or this street tree was already compromised and couldn't withstand whatever that storm was.

    I've read elsewhere that it is very prone to breaking.

    Other similarly brittle popular cultivars include Pyrus calleryana 'Bradford' and Fraxinus angustifolia 'Raywood'.
