There appears to be a relatively new planting of what look like Akebonos in the parking lot of the Tisol pet supply store on the south side of Grandview Highway at Nootka. When I was there a couple of days ago, they were just beginning to bloom:

    20120402_3033Grandview_Akebono_Blumenthal_1610.jpg 20120402_3033Grandview_Akebono_Blumenthal_1611.jpg 20120402_3033Grandview_Akebono_Blumenthal_1612.jpg 20120402_3033Grandview_Akebono_Blumenthal_1613.jpg

There are six of them in all in the parking lot.

The eleven Whitcombs on Clive Avenue, east of Spencer to McHardy Street, show variations in their flowering on March 8, 2013.

Most of the opened flowers are as pink as the first two photos.

The tree at the east end of the row on the south side (SE Clive and Spencer) has lots of deep-pink buds and the just-opening flowers are also a deep pink (third and fourth photos).

However, the tree at the other west end, also on the south side (SE Clive and McHardy) has been in bloom for some time, since there are blossoms on the ground already (last three photos). Its flowers are a paler pink.

If you're coming westbound on SkyTrain and look out the window as it exits Joyce-Collingwood, there's a cherry blossom tree blooming there.

xd1771, the trees you see from the Skytrain to the south are the ones Anne just posted.

Those trees are in bloom, and this 'Whitcomb' just a few blocks away is not, but it's young, and either not grafted or bottom-grafted. And there's just the one of it, on Spencer between Euclid and Kingsway, but it's very sweet. You can see it on Google street view, 5228 Spencer, from a few years ago, and it's looking very much better.
    20130309_SpencerEuclid_Whitcomb_Cutler_P1400714.jpg 20130309_SpencerEuclid_Whitcomb_Cutler_P1400719.jpg 20130309_SpencerEuclid_Whitcomb_Cutler_P1400722p.jpg 20130309_SpencerEuclid_Whitcomb_Cutler_P1400723-p.jpg

I was actually all excited thinking I'd found the first 'Whitcomb' in the Victoria-Fraserview neighbourhood, till I realized I was still north of 41st. There don't seem to be any 'Whitcomb' in that neighbourhood - the ones on my city list are some other cultivar.

The 10 Ukons on the south side of E. 15th, from Renfrew east to Nootka, are in various stages of bloom on April 14, 2013. One tree is already dropping blossoms. New Akebono and Kanzan trees have also been planted on this block.

Four Takasago trees running on the north side of E. 18 from Nootka east to Rupert.

Horror at E. 21st and Windermere, April 14, 2013. The Takasago on the north side of E. 21st, east of Windermere, can barely watch as the Avium across the street has slowly consumed its companion until only a single Takasago arm remains.

Witnesses to the tragedy are the newly planted row of 5 Shirotae saplings.

These 'Whitcomb' have all been posted before:
Festival favourites on Clive at McHardy.

Four old trees on Manor between Queens and Wellington.

The allée of trees in Regent Court, off Ascot near McGeer. There are a LOT of plantings of four or six 'Akebono' around this development. I hope to check on them with the other great 'Akebono' locations in the area are in bloom.

Across from the trees on Clive is this weeping white-blossomed cherry of some sort. The branches are so sturdy that it seems most likely to be 'Sendai-shidare'. I hope I remember to check when I'm back for the 'Akebono'.

The favourite 'Akebono' locations in this neighbourhood are in bloom:
    Austrey and McHardy

Melbourne Park, 'Akebono', and 'Tai Haku' next to the not pictured 'Shirotae'.

On the meetup group walk today, we found several other locations not even on the map yet:
A private 'Akebono' planting across from the western edge of Gaston Park, east of Joyce at Crowley Dr.

Several 'Akebono' at Aberdeen Park at Crowley and Aberdeen
    20140409_CrowleyAberdeen-AberdeenPk_Akebono_Cutler_P1030292.jpg

Several 'Akebono' at Crowley and Oben, at what I think is Wall Centre Central Park, and a 'Shirotae' at Crowley and Oben, across from a corner of the park.

Follow up on locations mentioned a few weeks ago:
The trees in Regent Court are indeed 'Akebono'. Here are some at Queens and McGeer and Yardley and McGeer. The ones along what would be Yardley are planted in fours and sixes in pockets between the buildings.
    20140409_QueensMcGeer_Akebono_Cutler_P1030312.jpg 20140409_QueensMcGeer_Akebono_Cutler_P1030313.jpg 20140409_YardleyMcGeer_Akebono_Cutler_P1030314.jpg 20140409_YardleyMcGeer_Akebono_Cutler_P1030315.jpg

I'm too late for the weeping white tree, but it's probably 'Snofozam', as 'Sendai-shidare' are just coming out and the petals would be overlapping on that one. Clive and McHardy.

The 'Washi-no-o' are looking beautiful now. The single tree photo is from 26th near Nootka. There are six or seven trees on Nootka between 25th and 26th.

On April 27, as I was driving east on Granview Highway at Slocan I spotted some trees inside what turned out to be the Still Creek Housing Co-op - two nice 'Shirofugen'.
    20140427_SlocanGrandviewHwy_Shirofugen_Cutler_IMAG1203.jpg 20140427_SlocanGrandviewHwy_Shirofugen_Cutler_IMAG1206.jpg 20140427_SlocanGrandviewHwy_Shirofugen_Cutler_IMAG1208.jpg

On May 1, I mis-remembered a location I was supposed to check out, and I discovered this beautiful two blocks of 'Kanzan' on 12th (not Grandview Hwy) between Nanaimo and Penticton. They've finished blooming, and I only had my mobile - good enough for the map.

Stopped by Clive Ave on my way home today, here's some shots of the 'Whitcomb' in bloom on Clive between Spencer and McHardy.

Sorry not the best quality photos, I didn't have my good camera with me, just my iPhone.

The seven Washi-no-o trees along Nootka Avenue by E. 25 are in full fragrant bloom at March 18, 2015. However, the two trees on E. 26, east of Nootka are a little behind.

I wasn't expecting to see a whole block of cherry trees as they weren't on the map, but noticed them along E. 40th Ave just east of Clarendon when I was getting ready to get off a bus for a transfer. The photos were not very good as I only had my phone camera with me, and the close up shots all turned out to be blurry. I was in a hurry as I didn't want to miss my transfer, so I am not sure, but all these trees are most likely to be Akebono.

After taking photos of the row of trees on the north side of E. 40th Ave, I noticed a big Akebono inside the fence of the house at the northeast corner of Clarendon and E. 40th. North of the big tree, inside the same yard, is a slightly smaller one.

There are a number of 'Ukon' trees planted around Cariboo Park. Two of them are in between two 'Kanzan' on E. 29th Ave east of McHardy Street. Too bad the trees were probably planted without thinking of aesthetics in photography, it would have been much nicer to be able to take a photo capturing all four cherry trees without being blocked by another non-cherry tree, and it would be perfect if there were cherries planted near the small pond area.

On the other end of the walking path, on Moscrop Street to the west of Cariboo Street, there are a big 'Ukon' alongside another 'Kanzan.' It looks like the trees behind the 'Ukon' here are early-blooming cherries too, worth checking out early in the season next year. There is also a sweet cherry nearby that I didn't capture on camera.

Then going around to the east side of the park, northwest of Cariboo and Moscrop, there are also two big 'Ukon' trees. Initially, when I looked from Moscrop Street, I thought there was only one tree, but when I looked more carefully from Cariboo Street, there are actually two trees. So there are a total of five 'Ukon' in this park.

Across from Cariboo Park, the house to the south of the lane between E. 29th Ave and Moscrop Street has a few cherry trees in the backyard. There is a 'Kanzan' at the side of the house, and around the corner, on the lane between Cariboo and Joyce, is a sweet cherry and a 'Shogetsu.' The 'Shogetsu' has started its bloom but there are still a lot of buds waiting for their turn.
