Red flowering plant in the dunes: Helleborus?

    In the dunes of Terschelling (The Netherlands, Wadden Sea), I found the plant you'll find on the attached photos. Diameter of the flower is about 2 cm (to have an approximating scale). Identification brought me to Helleborus, it has small, unimpressive petals and larger sepals. But this dark red of the flower and its small size speaks against it?
    I'd be very glad if someone could help me.

    Thank you! Interesting, I found it not in an swamp area, it lived in quite dry sandy soil. But nevertheless, I'm happy with your findings.
