I live in Atlanta, GA and with the onset of spring I need advise on my potted bamboo plants. All the stalks look dead, can I prune back the plants and start fresh this year?

Depends on what kind of bamboo, but in general I don't recommend it. Most bamboo are just now starting to leaf out, and you're liable to off it all together. It *may* grow back from the roots, but it's a gamble I, personally, wouldn't take.

thanks for your reply. I didn't prune them at the end of last summer and now they just looks like a bunch of dead twigs. Should I wait a few more weeks and prune off only what does not come back or can I prune out a portion of the mass? I'm concerned all the energy for new growth will be scattered around too much
