I have a beautiful specimen of what is commonly called a tri-colour beech. It has been in my yard about 4 years, and is about 12'.
I am in zone 6 with pure sandy soil.

Could anyone tell me how (and when) to go about propagating it? Is there anything to be done other than air layering?

    Thanks.

Grafting onto ordinary beech seedlings is the normal production method. Not difficult if you have experience with grafting in general, but decidedly tricky for a 'newbie' with no previous experience of grafting plants.
