These are Blireiana plums Prunus x blireiana. That's why you can't find it in our cherry book (so you're doing quite well).I'm going to move your posting over to the Plums "neighbourhood, where you'll find it has lots of company.

When I went to Dunbar where it was good neighborhood, plum blossom had already bloomed. Those were so beautiful.
At that time the weather was not good so I couldn't take perfect pictures. If you go there when the weather is awesome, I swear you could see beautiful view. :)

Here's the shapely plum tree at Kits Beach that Mariko photographed in posting #8, in summer with its purple leaves.

    Plums.
1 - It's early season and there are leaves.
2 - You have to look closer! There are several of those lollipop looking buds sticking straight out from the stem.

Re: Downtown - the first Akebono blossoms of 2011

The blossoms outside the art gallery on the West Georgia side are also looking fine. Take a look if you are also checking out the Canstruction exhibits mostly at the HSBC Pendulum Gallery (also a couple exhibits at 1075 and 1111 W. Georgia lobby, nice one in Four Seasons Hotel by Pacific Centre) - until April 5, date of the Cherry Jam!

I am sorry that I am better at distance than closeups, and I am not yet clear on the type of tree, but here are pictures from today at Everett Crowley Park bordered by N-S E62nd and Marine Drive, and W-E Kerr and Champlain Drive, plus a two block set on Butler St. between E 49th and E 54th, east of Kerr one block west of Tyne.

    Re: Plums - Victoria

I've seen photos on flickr this week of these trees being in full bloom in Victoria. We don't seem to have this cultivar here. I don't know if it's a very early-blooming variety, or if Victoria is that much ahead of us here in Vancouver. Our pissardi plums in the West End are just at their early very unattractive stage with scattered open flowers, and they're ahead of the cerasifera.

    Re: Marpole

Stuff I found at Marpole. The tree in the first two photos looks like it could be a Yama-Zakura. Distant view of that tree in 4th photo. 3rd photo is unclear to me, but I'm new to this so sumimasen :3

I may come back there today to take closer pics.

They seem to me purple-leaved plum. Their flowers are single. 12,000 cherry plum are blooming in City of Vancouver in next two weeks.

    Re: Marpole

In 2008, the Parks Board told us 17,000 plums. It's probably more now. The numbers were in this thread. The festival is saying there are 40,000 cherries now.

Quite a nice stretch of plum blossoms out on SW Marine Dr. east of 41st to Dunbar and then more a bit further east to Marpole.

    Re: Marpole

The ones quoted were in bloom in May - 'Kanzan' cherries. Now, end of March, you're seeing plums. It's amazing that there's enough room for all those plums, and then all those 'Kanzan' cherries, in almost the same location.
