Assistance identifying this plant would be greatly appreciated. I took this in the late summer, it has since lost all its leaves. I want to learn how to prune it properly.

    Thank you.

Kind of looks like a tree peony, maybe Paeonia lutea or P. delavayi species or relative.
Are there some buds on woody stems ? Was there any flowers or seed pods ?
    A recent photo might help.

I'm not at location until Wednesday, so can't comment on buds on woody stems, until then. It was so much more bedraggled and dead that I pulled most of the leaves off. I only have this one other photo of it...a bit better perhaps...

Thank you, seems it bloomed and those are peony seed pods in the photo.
Did you happen to see if the flowers were yellow or red ?

Thank you! After you said that I looked up tree peonies and pruning of such, and I'm pretty sure that's it.

    Thanks so much!
