    Fertilize lightly and frequently and don't over do the phosphorus.

    A problem with fertilizing based only on what kind of plant is being fertilized is you still have to deal with variations in soil nutrient content from one site to the next. Some yards have different kinds of soil in different parts of the yard. Before doing much fertilizing best to sample soil and have it tested. Check Florida Cooperative Extension resources for help with this.
