we have a thornless blackberry and a boysenberry in one of our beds. We want to raise the soil level in the whole bed about six inches. Will raising the soil level around the vines cause them problems? They're two years old and they produced fairly well last year.

    Thanks,
    Mike

i know that the wild ones at the BC Coast root from the vine (cane)

many of us curse that trait!

so just don't bury the entire plant

make sure it's layered (ie a mid portion of the cane (vine) so that the lead end is still exposed.

i would not totally bury the root zone - let it come along naturally
maybe make a "well" with non-toxic material --- is sonotube (concrete form from the builder supply) is non tox and biodegrades over time?
(usually there are cut ends at the builder supply that they are just going to put in recycle bin)

this would allow the root area to fill in naturally over time.

that would be how i'd start if i was determined to save the plants
