Dear anyone with Palm tree experience,

After my recent Florida vacation, I had a moment of fool hardiness and purchased a Majestic Palm from IKEA. I usually have a varied garden on my balcony during the summer, but I have very little idea of how to care for palm trees. How can I keep it healthy and protect it from my CAT?

Currently, I live in a suburban chicago, 3rd floor apartment facing East with a sliding glass patio door. How many hours of sunlight does my palm require? My apartment is extremely dry; is misting the leaves with a spray bottle a bad idea? How will air conditioning affect my new tree?

The leaves/fronds are currently covered in a dusty white "powder". How can I clean the leaves?

What are guidelines for repotting - how often, how much larger should the pot be increased?

    Thank you,
    Gail

HI, i HAVE LEARNED BY EXPERIENCE, THAT IF YOUR CAT IS DIGGING IN THE SOIL, PUT PINE CONES, ENOUGH TO COVER THE SOIL. i HOPE THIS HELPS.
