    Hi
Have recently moved to Nanaimo BC from Ottawa and have large yard of trees shrubs etc. some of which I am not familiar.

A number of conifers appear to be in trouble (scale ??)

    Any ideas?

looks to be a Pine of some sort, need a close up of the needles to be able to try a better ID. The issue you show is more than likely a lichen of sorts, usually harmless. definately not scale.

Pinus thunbergii with lichens on the twigs and scale insects on the needles.
