    Hello fellow plant enthusiasts,

We discovered this shrub growing in a sparse treed fen site:
    • Around 2 feet tall
    • Dense, tight growth habit
    • Slightly hairy, broadly oval leaves
    • Small, edible dark blue/purplish-black berries, ~ 7mm wide x 10 mm long (somewhat egg-shaped)
It was the only one of its kind that we saw - a complete anomaly in a typical fen ecosystem with stunted birch trees, alders, leatherleaf, sheep laurel, grasses and sedges, etc. This area was located near an old tract of farmland, which may have had other edible berry species introduced.

Any help with identifying this plant would be much appreciated!

Have a look at Lonicera caerulea for comparison.
