Can anyone identify this plant? It spring up last spring in my daughter's garden in the area of Commercial Drive. The leaves look a bit like Helleborus, but since it has not bloomed...

One of the new types such as Helleborus nigercors that has become prevalent on the market during the flowering season, even being stocked by big box stores.

If they've had a setback (root rot, difficult spot, etc.) they don't always bloom. I don't expect all of mine to bloom next spring after being moved under hard conditions this spring.

That makes sense... Because this mystery plant surrounds another that I bought and planted last fall, I'm thinking the mystery plant was a freeloader and not visible a year ago and has had to struggle to leaf out. It looks quite healthy. Will just have to wait and see what develops.
