Identification: Mushroom in the wilds

    I have not found this mushroom in any of my books. Can someone identify this?

    Hi Marcel,

    It looks like an Amanita, re the veil remnants on the slug-chomped cap and general appearance, and I'm sure the yellow of the stem will help towards getting it to species. Doesn't look like one from my region.

    Photos/descriptions in Mushrooms of Northeast North America suggest Amanita frostiana or Amanita flavoconia might be possibilities.
