I have never seen a Maple tree bloom like this. Maybe someone can more completely identify it. Picture taken March 1, 2007.

Red maples (Acer rubrum) are out. Usually these have mostly red flowers, but not always. Silver maple (A. saccharinum) may be another possibility. It has coloring like this, but I'm not sure it comes out this early.

Boxelders aren't out yet and have these long stringy flowers that hang down.
