Magnolia campbellii subsp. mollicomata

    The flowers on this Magnolia campbellii subsp. mollicomata tree are the best colour (ha! not evident in the photos), but they're way up there. It's surprising that this tree is the first magnolia in bloom this year. I posted it on April 12, 2012,
    April magnolias - better than ever?,
    when it had lots of company with the other magnolias in bloom (M. sargentiana, M. sprengeri), but this year, a colder year than 2012, it's jumped way ahead.

    This tree is at the fence behind the reception centre building.
