Family: Juncaceae Name(s) and Author(s): Juncus arcticus Willdenow var. balticus (Willdenow) Trautvetter Location: Zumwalt Prairie, The Nature Conservancy Preserve, Oregon Photograph Copyright: Richard LeBlond Even though we know grasses, sedges, and rushes are flowering plants, rarely do we get a glimpse of them in flower. These tiny Baltic rush florets are less than a centimeter wide. Given that this is the only time I have ever seen a rush floret in this form, they likely open for only a very brief period.
