Saw this tree growing in the Friends of the Public garden next to Boston Common. Looked and smelled like some sort of Jasmine, but I thought jasmines usually can't survive the cold New England winter outdoors?

Would love to know what it is, since I love the jasmine scent and I'm looking for trees to plant in my new garden in New York!

Jasmines (Jasminum species) produce trumpet-shaped flowers.

To save your embarrassment, Jasminum and Chionanthus are close relatives - so you weren't far out ;-)
