Ah, sorry Lorax, I must have missed that in the recap! I remember looking it up when I originally saw the post, but the genus names was misspelled a bit and I couldn't figure out the correct name, and toquilla looked more or less correct, but seemed also to refer to other things. Anyways I believe Carludovica palmata is probably correct for #4. So here is the updated list: 1. Phoenix canariensis 2. Phoenix canariensis also? 3. ? 4. Carludovica palmata 5. ? 6. Clivia spp. 7. Kale? 8. Dypsis decaryi 9. Raphiolepis indica 10. ? 11. Tabebuia chrysotricha/Handroanthus chrysotrichus 12. Limonium perezii 13. Justicia brandegeana 14. Oenothera speciosa 15. Carissa macrocarpa 16. Euphorbia characias 17. ? 18. ? 19. ? 20. ? 21. ?
In retrotspect, #5 strikes me as being similar to Monstera spp., at least in leaf shape. Although I'm not sure if the resemblance is due to relatedness or not...
#5 is definitely not a Monstera - it's got a woody trunk! I was thinking it looked more like an Oak (Quercus spp) but again that's not quite right.
A friend's picture of #7 on facebook has brought me back around to the question. I think #7 is some variety of Brassica oleracea a.k.a. Ornamental Kale/Flowering Kale. Google image results show a whole slew of various completely dissimilar plants, even by typing in the species name, so it's difficult to figure it out for sure. Also, there are many various different looking plants in web results that are called Brassica oleracea as well. Not to mention that the Wikipedia page, which calls it Wild Cabbage and has pictures of something completely different.
