Hello, I'm new to the forum and have already learned so much from everyone. I was hoping someone could tell me if there is anything I should know about how to collect seeds from a hot pepper plant. I was given some peppers, and my boyfriend popped them in the fridge. Can I still harvest the seeds? If I want to try sprouting right away do I have to dry them out first or just pop them in soil. I plan to grow them in containers indoors in a sunny southfacing window. Thanks!
Hello Kamiry, Have a look in this thread. http://www.botanicalgarden.ubc.ca/forums/showthread.php?t=55516 Welcome to Botanical Garden Forums!
Katalina, That thread is why I got so excited about peppers. However, it doesn't say anything about collecting or treating seeds, it just shows their beautiful results. If nobody else responds here maybe I'll try reposting there though! Thanks, Kamiry
Here is a helpful link on collecting the seed http://www.thechileman.org/guide_seedsaving.php I think its answered your question on both counts Kamiry.
I am glad a warning about the capsaicin oil was mentioned right away. I made that mistake once. Broke open a nice ornamental pepper at someone's garden and collected the seeds in paper. The oil didn't affect the thick skin of my hand, but then I went to the bathroom. Yikes! Don't ever do that.
