Not sure if this is a flower or seed. Found it on Mt. Eddy, CA in August, and at Sucker Creek Gap, OR in September. What type of plant is this? I only have pictures of the flower/seed, not the plant.
On Mt. Eddy it was high open rocky mountain slope. At Sucker Creek Gap it was in a meadow near a spring. I don't have any info other than the pics. Don't know if the stem was sticky.
I'm fairly sure it's western false asphodel, Triantha occidentalis, past flowering and well into fruiting stage. If that's in fact what it is, it's common in damp, boggy areas in northern California, SW Oregon, and north through the Cascades. It used to be part of the Lily family, but has been changed to the Tofieldiaceae. Pictures at: http://calphotos.berkeley.edu/cgi-b...alis|Tofieldia+occidentalis+ssp.+occidentalis
