Great Big Question re: Cordyline

    OK. So.... I have heard that Cordyline terminalis is "officially" called Cordyline fructosa and I have also heard this is incorrect. Can anyone give me the definitive term?

    According to the latest accepted nomenclatural research, Cordyline fruticosa is the correct name for the ti plant. Evidently, the more familiar name, C. terminalis (coined in 1820) was not published correctly, according to the rules of the International Code of Botanical Nomenclature. The first legitimately published name for this species (C. fruticosa) was in 1919.
