i have an old gravenstien apple tree, as far as i know 70 years.
it has some rot in the main large branches but i do not wish to remove the tree nor do i wish to nurse it if it will only die in a few years. i would replant if i knew that.
does anyone know if harsh pruning will help to reguvinate it?

Harsh pruning will distress it. And harsh pruning may have been what started the rot in the first place, if it was topped at some point - like so many of them here are.
