Another found rose from Langley. Allways on the lookout for roses particularly wild roses I spotted this on from the road and on closer inspection noticed that the new shoots growing were red in colour. I have not seen this happening to a nootka rose before and was wondering if anyone has seen this before or knows a cause of this red colouring. This rose is growing alongside a brook in a low lying area surrounded by deciduous trees and local plants. It look like it only gets dappled sunlight during late spring and summer.

    Probably R. pisocarpa.

Wrong shape to stipules to be R. pisocarpa and the hips and pedicel are not gladular or scented. My question wasn't so much as what kind of rose but what would cause the new shoots to be red.

Your concept of the morphology may be too narrow to allow for the full range of expression in the species.
