Most vegetable plants are unfamiliar to me outside the green grocer's. I did recognize these as garlic scapes and they certainly smelled like garlic. Allium sativum.

I only saw potatoes for the first time two weeks ago in a decorative roadside planting, was very taken with the leaves, was sure they were Solanaceae, and somehow managed to ID them as potato. So I was very happy to recognize these as Solanum tuberosum today.
