Identification: Fomitopsis pinicola, Red-belted Bracket fungus?

    Location:
    British Columbia
    Habitat:
    Found in the woods in British Columbia, growing on the sides of fallen trees.

    Gills:
    White pores

    Stem:
    No stem. A very solid chunk as hard as the wood it's growing on.

    Cap:
    4" wide, black/brown/red/white, hard, shell-like shape,

    Spore print color: white

    Bruising:
    slight light brownish colour

    Yes - this appears to be a Fomitopsis pinicola, red-belt conk. As you noted, the bruising colour on the pore surface is light, as opposed to blackish bruising of Artist's conk.
