I wanted to show Nadia Parrotia flowers, but even though we knew what plots they were supposed to be in, we were mapless and clueless and were having no luck finding one. So we asked Eric La Fountaine, who told us that the weepy tree right there on the island in the middle of garden entrance, so a tree we've seen every time we've been to the garden, is Parrotia persica 'Pendula'. Who knew? We couldn't even see the bright red colour until we got right up close to it. These buds are much cuter when the sepals are grey and fuzzy. I don't know if they're black and shiny only because of the rain just ended or if that's because of the frost as well. Some wet Hamamelis glistening in the sun: (edited- see Ron's comment next posting) H. x intermedia 'Carmine Red' and H. x intermedia 'Orange Beauty', both in the Winter Garden. Here is Lonicera x purpusii, also in the Winter Garden. I don't recall ever noticing the flowers of Petasites japonicus var. giganteus.
More flowers from the garden Iris reticulata, Camellia 'Michael'?, Eranthus hyemalis, Phlox stansburyi Petasites japonicus var. giganteus, Galanthus elwesii, Helleborus 'Penny's Pink'(garden store), Cornus mas Rhododendron(winter garden), Synthyris missurica, Crocus rujanensis, Trachycarpus fortunei with fruits Corylus, Leucojum vernum, Rhododendron, Parrotia persica
