Help! I transplanted my 4 year old Fatsia Japonica and the gorgeous leaves are drooping severely. Unfortunately, when we lifted it out a lot of the soil fell off the roots. The spot we placed it in only gets part sun in the afternoon and nice cool roots. I have cut it back a few times and otherwise it is a healthy specimen and about 4 feet tall. The night we moved it it was cool out. The temperature since then has also been cool. Any suggestions to save this beauty?

You have to keep it alive until the root system is once again able to keep the top supplied with water. Rig up something to shade it and water liberally. As always with planting it should have also been mulched.

If a bunch of roots broke off with the soil it may not make it.

    Thanks Ron,
Any ideas for how and what to mulch with. I'm kind of a rookie.

I too want to transplant a mature Fatsia. What's the best time to do it and should I just dig it up and put it in a new hole with lots of water?
