I told Sue I saw the tree she posted, but it's not true - the 'Shirofugen' I saw was on the west side of Alder just north of 7th. So I have to put it on the map myself.

It's a scrawny thing, but this Kanzan at the northwest corner of Broadway and Granville is in full bloom at April 1, 2015.

New find yesterday, 'Shogetsu' on 2nd at Pine. I had just identified two groups of 'Shogetsu' (and a posting two before that one) with no trouble, not far from here in the Kitsilano neighbourhood, but the flower balls on this tree were so fluffy, and fully in bloom, that it took me a long time to decide that this must be that cultivar, and I'm not very confident of the ID.

I went to visit Sue Wagner's 'Pink Perfection' (Sue found this tree, and I consider it hers) on 3rd between Pine and Fir. It looks pretty good this year. It's the lighter coloured tree with greener leaves. There were lots of flower photos posted before and I didn't get any good ones.

There is such a variety of 'Kanzan' trees here: high grafted ugly, high grafted not to bad, and this low grafted. I'm assuming because of the roots coming up from the ground that it is grafted, onto avium.

I took a walk to get photos for some trees I put in pending status on the map last fall. This nice grove of 'Kanzan' on 12th at Willow was one location.
    20150408_Willow12th_Kanzan_Cutler_151942.jpg

Along the way, we saw these two 'Shirotae', long finished blooming, in the lane between 14th and 15th at Laurel.
    20150408_Lane14-15Laurel_Shirotae_Cutler_150730.jpg 20150408_Lane14-15Laurel_Shirotae_Cutler_150746.jpg

Here is one 'Ichiyo' among four 'Shiro-fugen' already on the map, one on Ash and three on 10th. I'd guess this was supposed to be the same as the others.
    20150408_Ash10_Ichiyo_Cutler_153403.jpg 20150408_Ash10_Ichiyo_Cutler_153406.jpg 20150408_Ash10_Ichiyo_Cutler_153452.jpg 20150408_Ash10_Ichiyo_Cutler_153722.jpg 20150408_Ash10_Ichiyo_Cutler_153613.jpg

Two more 'Shiro-fugen' are at Banfield Pavilion on Ash north of 12th.

More discoveries whilst checking locations pending on the map. The first are two 'Ukon' on the 1500 block Mariner Walk, and one around the corner on 1st Avenue.
    20150409_1500blkMarinerWalk_Ukon_Cutler_164731.jpg 20150409_1500blkMarinerWalk_Ukon_Cutler_164947.jpg 20150409_1500blkMarinerWalk_Ukon_Cutler_164845.jpg 20150409_1500blkMarinerWalk_Ukon_Cutler_164911.jpg

Then my major excitement, what I'm calling 'Ito-kukuri' until someone tells me it's not (I've posted it in Ornamental Cherries for ID, at Late season, dark pink buds open to double white flowers, short stems). It's at the stairs leading up to the park from 1st Avenue, at the entrance to the parking for the Go Fish Restaurant and the wharf. On the left of the stairs (from the bottom) is a very showy 'Shogetsu'; on the right, buried under a lot of avium tree and rootstock growth are very beautiful flowers, looking a lot like the 'Shogetsu' but with more pink from the buds and outside of the flowers, and with very short stems relative to 'Shogetsu'.
    20150409_CreeksidePark1stAve_Ito-kukuri_Cutler_170134.jpg 20150409_CreeksidePark1stAve_Ito-kukuriAndAvium_Cutler_174858.jpg 20150409_CreeksidePark1stAve_Ito-kukuriAndShogetsu_Cutler_165506.jpg 20150409_CreeksidePark1stAve_Ito-kukuri_Cutler_170356.jpg 20150409_CreeksidePark1stAve_Ito-kukuri_Cutler_165804.jpg 20150409_CreeksidePark1stAve_Ito-kukuri_Cutler_170008.jpg

This is the 'Shogetsu', the only tree in this posting that was on the map.
    20150409_Creekside1st_Shogetsu_Cutler_165117.jpg 20150409_Creekside1st_Shogetsu_Cutler_165154.jpg

On the south side of the park is a row of 'Kanzan', with one young 'Shiro-fugen'.
    20150409_Creekside1st_Kanzan_Cutler_165050.jpg 20150409_Creekside1st_Shirofugen_Cutler_165230.jpg

Here are trees I was checking out. 'Kanzan' on Fir between 6th and 7th. On the west side, young trees on the boulevard and on private property, so a double row. There are older 'Kanzan' across the street.
    20150409_2275Fir6th_Kanzan_Cutler_160119.jpg 20150409_2275Fir6th_Kanzan_Cutler_160151.jpg

I wasn't searching for these, but there is a row of 'Kanzan' on Hemlock south of 8th, and between Hemlock and Birch on 8th.
    20150409_Hemlock8th_Kanzan_Cutler_161139.jpg 20150409_8thHemlock_Kanzan_Cutler_161150.jpg

The 'Kanzan' continue east to Birch sporatically on both sides. In their midst, on the south side, are three 'Shiro-fugen' on the boulevard and private property at the street. At Birch are two young 'Kanzan'.
    20150409_8thHemlock_Shirofugen_Cutler_161301.jpg 20150409_8thHemlock_Shirofugen_Cutler_161340.jpg 20150409_8thHemlock_Shirofugen_Cutler_161318.jpg 20150409_8thBirch_Kanzan_Cutler_161455.jpg

Time out: here is street corner garden maintained by a neighbourhood volunteer through the Green Streets program, 8th and Birch.
    20150409_8thBirch_GreenStreetsGarden_Cutler_161607.jpg 20150409_8thBirch_GreenStreetsGarden_Cutler_161618.jpg

The other location I was checking is 1155 W 8th, one 'Kanzan' in the garden and two private ones at the street. The street ones seem to be potted into avium barrels.

My absolute favourite, the Birch Bark Cherry trees on 8th near Ash. Sadly the trees don't look very healthy and I suspect that it's the dreaded bacterial canker which has destroyed the effect of the bark on the trunks (see the third picture). As you can see in the fourth picture, the bark on the branches is still beautiful and unblemished. The delicate tiny flowers with their long stamens are simply portraits in miniature. They hide beneath the well-developed leaves so one has to look from underneath to see the extent of the blossoms.

Thanks to @Junglekeeper for mentioning the first 'Accolade' cherry trees to appear in this neighbourhood. They are not in bloom yet, but I'm excited to get them on the map. Just two trees in the park to the west of the Vancouver Lawn Tennis & Badminton Club on West 15th Ave. 'Accolade' usually open a few flowers during the winter.

This tree is just next to the club's parking lot, on the path that would be 15th Avenue.

The other tree is also on the path, very close to Pine.

Wow. I'm reviewing some old markers submitted to the festival map that never got confirmed, and I see that on October 3, 2014, I added a marker for these, but didn't know what they were, then forgot all about them. I wondered if they were 'Pandora', and commented that they were not late bloomers. I'm impressed that I knew that in October. I still don't know what they are, but 'Pandora' is definitely in the running, pretty likely even. I definitely need to see flower photos. Do you frequent this area, or should I go?

Be my guest - I was just passing through. These markers you speak of, they're not visible to the public, are they?

When people enter markers to the map (even when I enter them), they are in "Submitted" status until I confirm the ID and approve the posting. It will be one marker for the two of them, and it stays not-approved until I figure out what they are. I should be able to see them this week.

I forgot to say that the first two of @Junglekeeper's previous postings with photos, False Creek and 15th and Willow, are 'Akebono'.

And I'm so excited to say that the the trees I supposed in October two years ago were 'Pandora' (Junglekeeper's third posting with photos immediately above) are 'Pandora'. I want a gold star, but there's no-one around to give me one. These are the flowers on each tree.
    20170405_814W14Willow_Pandora_Cutler_P1280350.JPG 20170405_838W14Willow_Pandora_Cutler_P1280347.JPG

Snuggled up to the one at 838 W. 14th is an 'Akebono'
    20170405_838W14Willow_Akebono_Cutler_P1280352.JPG 20170405_838W14Willow_Akebono_Cutler_P1280353.JPG

and there are two 'Akebono' on the corner at Willow.
    20170405_14Willow_Akebono_Cutler_P1280351.JPG

At the other end of the block, at Laurel, are three 'Shirotae' getting ready to bloom, no flowers open yet.

Back to Willow, at 788 W. 14th, is a nice-looking 'Whitcomb'. This cultivar is finished in the West End, but there are still unopened buds on this.
