Here are two more trees mentioned in Douglas Justice's "Early Spring in the Botanical Garden" March blog article, which you can read at Early Spring in the Botanical Garden | UBC Botanical Garden. The first are cherries, but older ones, not in the Wharton Cherry Grove. Prunus sargentii, which in our Ornamental Cherries in Vancouver book is called o-yama-zakura, "big mountain cherry". These trees are along Marine Drive south (or maybe it's east) of the garden entrance. And this is near just a short way into the garden along the main path. I think I must have posted blossom photos in focus in previous years. This is the time to see magnolias in the garden. I was trying to stay with the cherry theme, but it's hard to avoid photographing the Magnolia sprengeri 'Eric Savill', with Magnolia sargentiana in the background. These folks are visiting from Korea. There's a fancy new sign at the street.
