I have been considering the idea of having clematis grow up trees. Do they go up holly (a 2 story one). If a tree is bare on its trunk for a long way up should one try to wrap the tree in netting? How about over big cedar hedges? Any recommendations for this kind of clematis?
    Thanks,

Your suggestions are possible. Netting on the bare trunk would of course work, but you could also train the vine on a piece of twine tied to the tree so that it establishes itself vertically.

The same goes for the Cedar hedge. Although I haven't done this, as any hedges I work on are
shaped regularly and the Clematis would get butchered by a hedge saw.
