Cherry tree water sprouts

    I have just moved into a new place. There is an ornamental cherry tree that has very large water spout growths on it. The diameter of these growths are about 3-5 inches. How would you suggest they be removed? Should I wait until winter to remove them?

    I don't know much about this, but I think it is ok to do this now. The Vancouver Parks Board was planning to remove rootstock growth from a local ornamental cherry tree in the summer. I found a website that says spring is best, but the Parks Board told me they would not do that while the tree is blooming, which is in the spring. This page is about fruit trees, but maybe is useful:
